Curriculum Pathways

Semi-formal Pathway - KS 1-3 and 'Developing Independence and Communication KS4'

Students who are working between P4 and End of Year 1 expectations with Speech, Language and Communication Needs. The curriculum is divdied into six areas with the focus on Communication and Cognition. These are 'My Communication', 'Myself and My Body', 'My thinking & My Problem Solving', 'My Creativity', 'My Play & Leisure', and 'My World'. Within these areas of the curriculum with the use of a 'theme' activities are planned which are meanginful and 'real life' allowing for a deeper experience.

Formal Pathway

Students who are working at levels that can be related to the National Curriculum performance expectations. Curriculum planning ensures that communication, reading, writing, numeracy and social skills are embedded throughout the Formal Pathway. 'Learning through' other subject areas allows for students to transfer skills through the use of meaningful experiences.

Personalised Learning Pathway

Some of our students require an even more individualised and bespoke curriculum due to their complex needs and barriers to learning. The curriculum allows for some flexibility with 'pathways' depending on their level of anxiety at any one given time. For many of these students a THRIVE approach is used to help them reengage with life and learning
