New Build

Planning Application

We are excited to let you know that a planning application will soon be submitted for the redevelopment of The Woodlands Academy. The existing buildings are being replaced and will be demolished once a new building has been built.

The redevelopment of The Woodlands Academy is funded by the Department for Education as part of the School Rebuilding Programme. Galliford Try has been selected by the Department for Education to design and build the new school.

The proposed redevelopment includes a new L-shaped 2 storey school building, reconfigured landscaping and increased vehicle parking.

There will be no change to staff and student numbers as a result of the development. (The school is for children aged 2-16 with special educational needs).

The new school building will help to tackle climate change through minimising energy demand and using low carbon and renewable energy solutions.

Galliford Try will be submitting the planning application in early 2024. Once the application has been submitted, it will be available to view and comment on online via North Yorkshire Council’s planning portal for the Scarborough area at https://planning.scarborough.gov.uk/online-applications/

Subject to achieving planning permission, works will start on site in Summer 2024.
